Chaplaincy

Chaplaincy is a new opportunity within Son Surf. It was okayed by ASP International as most World Sporting bodies have Chaplaincy programmes that serve them. C.Surfers International (of whom SonSurf is an affiliated member) has the Global reach to serve ASP Events in most parts of the world, wherever Events are run.

Andy Pitt has served as ASP Africa Chaplain since 2008. He has overseen the Chaplaincy Programme around the country and worked with other Chaplains in serving the Sponsors and Officials at each event. The events we have served are the Quik Pro in Durban, the Lizzard Pro in Durban, the Mr. Price Pro in Ballito, the Billabong Pro in J/Bay and the O’Neill Cold Water Classic in Cape Town. We have wanted to expand our presence in serving the Junior events like the Billabong Junior Pro eventand the Oakley Junior Pro’s too.

Chaplaincy has been spilled out in each Region of the World. There are Regional Chaplains such as the Africa Chaplain but there are two full time Chaplains who travel with and represent the ASP Events. They are Lizelle Wilsslagh & Abe Andrews. Brad Whittaker oversees the Chaplaincy programme for ASP International(Association of Surfing Professionals).

The mandate is to be a objective Christian presence at each event, to be available for counselling and to help, to serve the Officials and Sponsors at events and to build relationships with officials, contestants and their families. It presents wonderful opportunity to influence surfing from the top down and to serve surfing in the name of Christ!
