Africa is very much still one of the undiscovered destinations in the surfing world, but this doesn’t mean that there aren’t surfers travelling there or locals surfing. More and more Africa’s surfing treasures are finding their ways onto the pages of surf mags and movies like Sliding Liberia leave little doubt about the predicted growth of surfing across Africa. This being said though Africa is still a continent ravaged by poverty instability, much of which can find its roots in colonialism and its destructive effects on the local family unit. South Africa is the financial capitol of the continent and it is very much one of the emerging world economies. I see great things for Africa and although our challenges are great the people are warm and friendly. The primary challenge for Christian Surfers in Africa is going to be to combine the evangelical side of the mission with an equally relevant and strong social justice approach to bringing life and life to the full to the coastlines of Africa. Surfing; natural entrepreneurialism; and opportunity will be key ingredients to the success of the mission on this continent, and surrounding islands.

Namibia:

Down in Namibia God has really blessed our country greatly. We have a large country nearly 1 000000 km/2 and a relatively small population of only 2 million people.

90% of our country practice the Christian faith believing that Jesus is true and died for our sins that we may have eternal life. We are blessed to be able to praise God openly without fear of persecution.

Unfortunately, worldwide the Christian faith is turning into a manmade religion where people prophesy to be Christians and believe in Jesus, but through their works it’s clear they treat Gods word as a fairy tale, old fashioned, a crutch to suit their needs there is a large deception taking place.

My name is Chris and I just love surfing. I have a family of 4 children and a wonderful wife, I find it absolutely inspirational that the surfing community has organized themselves in such a manner as to start Christian surfers.

In Namibia we are a hand full of surfers that believe in God and have changed our lives according to his word, we want to thank the Lord for his Grace in extending that opportunity to us. In Swakopmund Namibia we also had the privilege through Gods intervention to have Son surf SA come visit us being represented by Roy Harley, Rees Lewis Thomas and Brett Davis from Australia. We managed to get a full house of Swakopmund surfers together mostly atheists and show the walking on water video.

Please pray for the Namibian surfers that God will touch their hearts through his grace and draw them into his eternal kingdom. Morocco:

Morocco has one of if not the largest surfing population in Africa. A rugged and beautiful coast line with fantastic surf. It is a Kingdom and ruled over by King MOHAMMED VI. Who I have heard is a surfer, and as the king I’m sure has some amazing secret spots.

Africa has soooo much coastline and many wonderful and discovered and undiscovered waves. A beautiful and diverse plethora of peoples cultures and religions.
