On the 23rd of September 5 teens from the Life X change programme, a youth development programme that is aimed at youth at risk, teamed up with the Christian surfing organisation, Son Surf, to teach the young men how to surf and broaden their knowledge on the ocean.
The development clinic which took place in Muizenberg, saw the 5 teenagers endure a comprehensive surf lesson which covered all the basics of the sport and lasted the whole afternoon.
Life X change is a programme that helps rehabilitate the most troubled youth from the Ocean View area by incorporating extreme sports/activities, life skills programs and mentors with Christian morals and ethics into a programme that encourages the youth to turn away from the lives of crime and drugs they were once involved in.
After the surf lesson, Son Surf project manager Rees Thomas, took the boys for a study group where they watched a DVD On The Rocks and then discussed its themes.
The day was thoroughly enjoyed by the boys as there were able to add surfing to their long list of extreme sports learnt. For more information on either of the organisations involved in this development clinic feel free to call Matthew Webster on 0725824763
